County to Hold First Saturday and E-Waste Drop-Off Events, March 6
Donations of Non-Perishable Food Will Be Accepted at First Saturday Drop-Off
Donations will be delivered to local food banks.

BRIDGEWATER – Somerset County residents will have an opportunity to dispose of their unwanted recyclable items this weekend, at the First Saturday Drop-off and Electronic Waste recycling events on March 6.

“This Saturday is a perfect opportunity to clear out the basement or garage for spring cleaning and recycling your unwanted items,” said Somerset County Commissioner Melonie Marano, recycling liaison. “Folks can also help residents who are in need by donating non-perishable food at the First Saturday Drop-off event.”

First Saturday Drop-off (general recycling items) will be held on March 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. In addition to normal curbside recycling materials, residents can drop off up to eight passenger car tires, used motor oil, oil filters, and antifreeze and more. Donations of canned goods will be accepted and distributed to local food banks by the recycling department. (See below for more information)

Electronics Waste Drop-off (household devices) will be held on Saturday, March 6, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the South County Public Works Garage, located at 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. Electronic devices such as a computer, stereos, and more. (See below for more information)

FIRST SATURDAY DROP OFF REQUIREMENTS

Social distancing is required: Residents must wear facial coverings. Only one occupant per vehicle is allowed. Occupants should remain in their vehicles and staff will be available at every station to remove their items.

Proof of residency is required: Residents must have a current driver's license, valid lease, tax bill or any other bill that shows proof of a Somerset County address. Pre-registration is not required. Businesses or commercial vehicles are NOT allowed.

Items accepted: Chipboard items include gift, shoe, shirt- and all retail boxes, as well as cereal, cookie, pasta, and cake and cracker boxes without the plastic liners. Accepted also is poster board, greeting cards, backing from writing pads, and empty dried-out steel paint cans. Also, up to eight tires – with or without rims – scrap metal (NO refrigerators, air conditioners, humidifiers or dehumidifiers) used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, and the usual curbside materials, including chipboard items, plastic bottles and containers marked #1 through #7. Textiles are not accepted at First Saturday of the Month drop-offs. Residents should continue to recycle used textiles at any local charity donation bin.

ELECTRONIC WASTE DROP-OFF REQUIREMENTS
Saturday, March 6, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the South County Public Works Garage, located at 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.

Social distancing is required: Residents must wear facial coverings. Occupants should remain in their vehicles with the windows shut until otherwise directed. Residents are required to remove items from their vehicles without assistance from the staff, but staff will tell residents where to put their items.

Proof of residency is required: Residents must have a current driver's license, valid lease, tax bill or any other bill that shows proof of their Somerset County address. Pre-registration is not required. No businesses or commercial vehicles are allowed.

Items accepted: Computers (Desktops & Laptops), Monitors (Cathode-Ray Tube & Flat Panel), Cables, Circuit Boards, Keyboards, Mainframe Equipment & Controllers, Mice, Modems, Power Supplies, Printers, Scanners, Wiring, Copiers, Fax Machines, Typewriters, Audio Visual Equipment, Camcorders and more. Batteries are not accepted: Batteries such as AA, AAA, D, and C can be disposed of in the regular trash. Residents can recycle lithium and rechargeable batteries at scheduled Household Hazardous Waste drop-off events.
