OFFICE ON AGING OFFERS FREE FARMERS MARKET VOUCHERS TO ELIGIBLE RESIDENTS UNTIL SEPT. 30

SOMERVILLE – Eligible Somerset County residents can receive free farmers market vouchers worth $30 to purchase fresh vegetables, fruit, and herbs grown at local farms. The vouchers are available at the Office on Aging and Disability Services, located in Somerville until Sept. 30, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Vouchers are valid until Nov. 30.

Farm Stands Participating in 2022
Axcel Farm, Hillsborough; Duke Farm to Table Market, Hillsborough; Norz-Hill Farm & Market, Hillsborough; and John H. Drake Farm, Skillman.

Eligibility Requirements
Individuals must be60 years of age and above, reside in Somerset County and meet the following income guidelines:
-An individual’s income cannot exceed $25,142
-A married couple’s income cannot exceed $33,874
-Application and Registration Process


This year individuals will not have to provide proof of income, but eligible applicants must:

Sign and date a Self-Declaration of Income Form stating that they meet the required income guidelines
Fill out a registration form to receive the vouchers
Applicants MUST show proof of age and residency with a driver’s license or other documentation
Appointments to Apply and Pick Up Vouchers
To make an appointment and apply, call the Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services toll-free at 1-888-747-1122 or 908-704-6346, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

There will not be curbside assistance this year, but residents can pick up vouchers at the following location:

Parking is available in the Visitor Lot to the right of the Somerset County Human Services building

Proxy System
If eligible participants can not pick up their vouchers at the Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services, they can send a representative (proxy). Proxies can only represent a maximum of three seniors.

The proxy must meet the following criteria:
-Be at least 16 years of age or older
-Provide a proxy statement or letter that is signed and dated by the eligible senior stating the proxy is authorized to pick up the vouchers
-Provide identification

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
The Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services receives vouchers through the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The SFMNP is a program designed to provide low-income seniors with access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey and herbs; help increase the domestic consumption of agricultural commodities through farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agricultural programs; and aid in the development of local agriculture.
