BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission is seeking teens, ages 14 to 17 years, to apply to its Youth Environmental Stewardship (Y.E.S.) program. The three-day hands-on program will focus on ecological stewardship and the environment. Each day, participants will enhance their knowledge of native habitats through project work while building skills in leadership and teambuilding. There will also be a recreational or educational session each day. Participants who complete the program will earn a Stewardship Certificate from the Environmental Education Center (EEC). There will be a limited number of applicants chosen. The fee for the program is $30.
The YES program is an excellent opportunity for teens who are considering earning a degree in environmental science or natural resource management. Participants also will have the chance to experience the outdoors in a professional setting as they learn about ecology, the impact of invasive species, urgent environmental issues, and the practical steps individuals can take to help promote a healthier forest.
