3/7/2024 - Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services to Host Free Aging Well Expo
BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Somerset County’s free Aging Well Expo will be an energizing and fun day with educational discussions, interactive demonstrations, and preventative healthcare screenings. The event will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Senior Wellness Center at Bridgewater, 876 East Main St., Bridgewater. Admission is free.
“The goal of the Aging Well Expo is to help individuals overcome obstacles to healthy aging by connecting them to valuable resources,” said Commissioner Paul M. Drake. “Aging residents, their families, and caregivers won’t want to miss out on this dynamic event where attendees will have access to a variety of resources and opportunities to help older adults stay engaged and active in their communities.”
The Aging Well Expo will provide resources to help older adults connect to local resources such as senior wellness centers and transportation, so aging individuals can create meaningful relationships and overcome obstacles for healthy aging. Volunteer opportunities, interactive workshops, yoga sessions, and social clubs are just a few examples of what to expect at the Expo. There will also be live music, entertainment, door prizes and giveaways.
The Expo will be taking place in May in recognition of Older Americans Month and the county’s Age-Friendly Communities initiative. The theme for 2024 national Older American’s Month is “Powered by Connection,” which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on a person’s health and well-being. Expo resources, materials, demonstrations, and workshops will help create an awareness of the vital role that being connected plays in supporting independence and aging-in-place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues.
