Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off April 16 in Warren

 

 WARREN – Somerset County Freeholder Mark Caliguire, recycling liaison, invites Somerset County residents to take advantage of the next Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event to clean up any household hazardous waste items that have accumulated around their home this winter.

The next Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off for Somerset County homeowners and farmers will be Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Warren Township Public Works Garage, located at 1 Bardy Rd., Warren, NJ 07059.

For the convenience of residents, additional Household Hazardous Waste drop-off events will be held on June 18, Sept. 17 and Oct. 22 at different locations. No registration is necessary, but proof of Somerset County residency is required. The program is free to county residents.

Household hazardous waste includes banned or outdated pesticides, antifreeze, transmission fluid, brake fluids, wet-cell car batteries, motor oil (2-gallon maximum), fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent light bulbs, ammonia-based cleaners, gasoline, kerosene, mercury switches, oil-based paints, pool chemicals, propane tanks and rechargeable and button-cell batteries.

At the March 19 Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event, 831 county residents; the Somerset County Print Shop, Jail, and Park Commission; Bernards Township Board of Education; and Rutgers Prep dropped off approximately 54,500 pounds of hazardous materials for proper disposal. In addition, 220 gallons of used motor oil, 110 gallons of antifreeze, 23 propane tanks and 96 wet-cell batteries were collected and recycled.

No tires, electronics (computers and televisions), infectious waste, gas cylinders, smoke detectors, air conditioners or dehumidifiers are accepted at Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off events.

Residents can dispose of tires each month at First Saturday of the Month Drop-off events, doing away with unsightly clutter around the home. First Saturday Drop-off events are held at the Somerset County Recycling Center in Bridgewater on the first Saturday of the month. For more information, call the Recycling Center at (732) 469-3363.

Residents can recycle electronics free of charge on designated Saturdays and weekdays at Somerset County facilities. Following is a schedule of days, drop-off locations and times:
Saturday drop-offs: April 2, May 7, June 4, July 9, Aug. 6, Sept. 10, Oct. 1, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South County Public Works Garage, 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
Weekday drop-offs: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North County Public Works Facility, 411 Chimney Rock Road - north of Route 22 - Building B, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 and the South County Public Works Garage, 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
