Youth Invited to a ‘Retro FRESH’ Party

 Registration Deadline is April 1. Seating is limited.

BRIDGEWATER – Somerset County youth in grades 7 to 12 are invited to enjoy a “Retro FRESH” party Saturday, April 9, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Ted Blum 4-H Center of Somerset County, located at 310 Milltown Road.

Admission is $2, which includes refreshments. Seating is limited to the first 150 registrants. Registration and payment are due by Friday, April 1.

Students attending the party will earn three hours Community Service Learning credit. Certificates will be awarded to them.

“Retro FRESH” is being held in conjunction with the well-known “Safe Night” program, which offers youth an evening planned by youth and adults that focuses on having fun without alcohol, drugs, weapons and arguments.

“This is the 17th year Somerset County is hosting a ‘Safe Night’ program. The program brings youth from around the county together in a fun-filled, safe environment,” said Freeholder Brian D. Levine, human services liaison. “It also provides an opportunity to share experiences and make new friends.”

The Raritan Valley Community College Improv Club will involve all participants in a group activity. Everyone will participate in yoga, a magical performance by Conrad the Magician, team building skills, Minute-To-Win-It games, and a healthy activity. In addition, kids will enjoy music by DJ CJ, mocktails, basketball, Marshmallow Tower, friendship-bracelet making and board games.

The “Safe Night” program is presented by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Somerset County Youth Council, Somerset County Senior Council 4-H Club and the Safe Communities Youth Coalition.

The “Safe Night” program was begun by former police officer Olusegun “Olu” Sijuwade through the City of Milwaukee Health Department in 1994. It is recognized by the National Crime Prevention Council as a model violence-prevention program.
