Community Project Ideas Wanted!

Deadline is April 20

Giving back to the community is a priority for Leadership Somerset, which is why each class is required to complete a group project. From the implementation of youth programs and financial literacy programs to meeting the needs of various local nonprofit organizations, Leadership Somerset Fellows have made a difference.

What unmet community need does your organization want to address? The Leadership Somerset Class of 2016 is requesting proposals from nonprofits, local governments and public educational institutions that serve residents of Somerset County. Review our Community Project Idea Guidelines.

Project ideas should be submitted to LeadershipSomerset@co.somerset.nj.us by Wednesday, April 20. Representatives from submitting organizations may be asked to present an overview of their project idea to the current class on Wednesday, May 11.

Projects can be outlined in one or two paragraphs, or a maximum of one letter-size page. Ideas do not have to be completely fleshed out; however, proposals should have a definable goal that can be achieved by a small group of part-time volunteers working over a period of four months. Before being submitted, project ideas must have the approval of the organization’s governing body.

Leadership Somerset Fellows have had the opportunity to work with many organizations, including the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program (SHIP), Middle Earth, Alternatives, Inc., Agape House, the Adult Day Center of Somerset County, CASA SHaW (Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties), the Borough of Somerville, the Center for Great Expectations and the Foodbank Network of Somerset County.

Established in 2000, Leadership Somerset is an eleven-month adult community leadership program sponsored by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Somerset County Business Partnership, Raritan Valley Community College and the United Way of Northern New Jersey.
