SOMERVILLE – Somerset County Freeholder Director Brian D. Levine invites the public to attend the county’s first free Diversity Festival, which will be held in honor of Global Diversity Awareness Month. Visit the family-fun event on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., located in Somerville along Grove Street at Veterans Memorial Plaza and on the courthouse lawn across from the County Administration Building.

Free parking and transportation will be available. Visitors can park at the Bernie Field Parking Deck located on High Street and the parking deck at 27 Warren St. Free county shuttle buses will be running to and from the event in Bound Brook, Bridgewater, Franklin, Hillsborough, Manville, North Plainfield, Somerville and South Bound Brook.

Show your patriotism at the opening ceremony and join the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders for the Pledge of Allegiance and the “Star Spangled Banner” along with brief welcoming remarks. American Sign Language interpreters will take part.

See exotic entertainment at several locations along Grove Street. Scheduled performers will include an African drumming circle, a salsa swing band, a tai chi demonstration and other artists. Enjoy puzzles and games, face-painting, diversity-themed interactive art projects and selfie stations. View exhibits and materials from advocacy groups, community organizations, and county departments and agencies. Please your palate with an assortment of ethnic cuisines to taste at affordable prices.

Sponsored by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Diversity Festival is one of several diversity initiatives launched by Somerset County to embrace and include our multi-cultural residents, and to help further create vibrant connections between our communities.
