Youth Council to Hold Teen Event - ‘Join the Green Side’

BRIDGEWATER – Go green! Somerset County Freeholder Brian D. Levine invites students in grades 7 to 12 to attend “Join the Green Side,” an exciting teen event that features fun games and interesting eco-friendly activities. Join other teens on Saturday, March 28, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., in the gymnasium at the Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools, located at 14 Voigt Dr., Bridgewater. Admission is $2, and preregistration is required. The deadline to register is Friday, March 20. The event is open to the first 150 registrants. Participants are encouraged to wear green.

Watch an interesting educational presentation about the environment and enjoy a Tae Kwon Do demonstration. Take part in games, team building, environmental activities and yoga. Get free giveaways and a Community Service Learning certificate. Refreshments will be served.

Speakers include Freeholder Brian D. Levine, Somerset County Youth Council Co-Chairs Mukand Srikishan and Vikram Srikishan, and Raritan Headquarters representatives whose mission is to protect clean water in rivers, streams, and homes in Hunterdon, Somerset and Morris counties.

Demonstrations and activities will be led by members of a martial arts school, Y.B. Choi Tae Kwon Do Franklin Park Demo Team; EmPoWER Somerset, an organization that teaches life skills such as positive decision making and healthy coping strategies for youth, adults family and veterans; and cosmetologists from Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools.

The program is sponsored by the Somerset Youth Council, which was established to help youth develop leadership skills and to give them a forum to express their ideas and concerns. The Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders governs and manages county-related services and programs including county youth services.
