Sharing Experiences During an Extraordinary Time

Historians and anthropologists know a lot about our past from records and items that everyday people kept, including letters, recipes, books, journals and artwork.

The outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is a period of history that people will be studying for years. A century from now, historians will want to know how the pandemic made people feel, how it impacted our culture and affected the economy.

The Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission is asking residents to help document this extraordinary time by sharing their thoughts, experiences and feelings.

"The overall national and statewide experiences are well documented, however the personal experiences within our County also need to be preserved for history. The challenges, the triumphs and the heartbreak from every aspect of this pandemic will be important parts of Somerset County history, and we need your help in compiling these experiences.” said Freeholder Brian G. Gallagher, Cultural & Heritage Commission liaison.

If you wish to express how the pandemic has impacted you and your loved ones, visit http://www.co.somerset.nj.us/SCRemembers to access:
• A survey suitable for adults and teens
• Coloring and activity pages for kids
• Connection Cards with ideas for things to do while staying at home together

Responses will be preserved digitally as "Somerset County Remembers." We hope this will give future historians a snapshot of life during this time.

New content will be added regularly, so please keep checking back at http://www.co.somerset.nj.us/SCRemembers to access all available pages and read the terms and guidelines for submitting content.
